Adam Pennycook describes himself as a silver-tongued, game-playing juggler but, hey, he’s not talking about being a ladies’ man. No, no. It means that among his many skills, he speaks three languages, he’s an inveterate video gamer, and somehow managed to learn how to juggle! Although his Xbox 360 is one of his prized possessions, he also plays numerous actual sports too when his thumb gets tired. As for his nasty juggling habit, we’ve learned (the hard way) to keep small objects off our desks for those moments when he drops in for a chat. While earning his degree at the University of Alberta and for two years after, he operated his own painting company. He later moved on to being an Estimator for a large commercial painting contractor which gave him a solid base in commercial construction. His personality and sense of humour attracts other people and makes people comfortable enough to open up. He is motivated by the opportunity to help people better themselves and would like you to give him a call sometime to do just that.
Leah Read comes with serious academic and practical experience to her role here at Lock. Not only has she received her MBA in Community Economic Development from Cape Breton University, she has years of real life experience to draw on. From working with Edmonton’s Food Bank and participating in the Streetworks needle exchange, the Mustard Seed church and HIV Edmonton, she has also gone abroad to gain international experience. She completed an Internship at an NGO in India where she not only learned critical skills in a professional capacity she also honed her mime and charades skills in communicating with a mostly non-English speaking staff. She spends a considerable amount of time looking after others but, she also knows how to look after herself and has a black belt in taekwondo to prove it. She cares not only about people but also our friends in the animal kingdom with three thirty gallon tanks full of fish at home. She also used to have a pet butterfly (?) named Calliope(?). Best not make fun of her about that one (see black belt above). Leah would love to add you to her collection of people and pets she looks after – give her a call at Lock soon.
