Our client, a powerhouse in the electrical and automation industrial distribution sector, is seeking an Automation & Controls Outside Sales Specialist to join their national team. Cameron Lappin of Lock Search Group has been engaged to find a technical ‘controls & automation’ sales professional with an electrical background to cover the Okanagan and Northern BC territory. In this strategic role your primary responsibility is to manage, support, and grow revenue and market share, by working closely with both internal sales and outside sales stakeholders, as well strategically with target customers, and key supplier/channel partners. This position is based in Kamloops, BC.
The Automation & Controls Outside Sales Specialist will collaborate with cross-functional teams to lead, manage, and develop automation solutions utilizing selected OEM automation products, encompassing control system architectures, PLC programming, HMIs, and SCADA systems, while integrating diverse automation components. You will engage with end-users to understand automation needs, provide support, and ensure successful project implementation with both internal teams and external partners. This role is a strong mandate for relationship building and maintenance, as well new client acquisition. The successful candidate will be a dynamic and highly-motivated professional, who has compelling drive and technical aptitude.
Position Overview:
- Accountable for fostering and sustaining sales relationships with each End User client/prospects in the MRO, and OEM markets, such as Mining, Forestry, Energy, and Manufacturing sectors
- Utilizes industry expertise to generate demand and sway decision-makers by crafting compelling purchasing justifications across all levels of a company
- Delivers training sessions to external and internal clients to ensure they stay abreast of technological advancements in Automation products.
- Guides partner sales and delivery teams on spotting new opportunities effectively.
- Engages in prospecting, penetrating target customers, and executing strategic sales strategies to consistently surpass annual goals and expand market share.
- Educates and supports internal Sales Representatives and colleagues, with identifying and closing Automation sales prospects across the Okanagan and Northern BC market.
- Develops yearly strategic plans for sales enhancement within assigned geographic regions.
- Offers mentorship and training to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Work across diverse teams to grasp business requisites and formulate automation solutions utilizing Automation products. Tasks include devising control system frameworks, programming PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems, as well as integrating assorted automation elements, including Automation software like FactoryTalk View, Logix Designer, and other pertinent tools.
- Help resolve technical dilemmas linked to automation systems, software, and hardware components.
Requirements:
- Post Secondary education is desirable, or a track record and transferable experience in Automation & Controls sales is also a strong fit
- Preference for a professional with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related discipline.
- A strong technical background and prior sales experience with Automation and Controls.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), presentation skills and a history of long-term customer relationships.
- Results-driven with strong sales and marketing discipline, and organizational skills.
- Experience working with all levels of an industrial automation influencers including VPs, Integrators, Engineers, Procurement, and Project Management.
- Valid driver’s license, with the ability to travel overnight in the territory (up to 30-40% in a month)
- Confident with utilizing CRM, and other software platforms to stay organized and connected
